Is Keep My Number better than Google Voice for living abroad?
For living abroad, yes — if you need bank codes and you are already outside the US. Google Voice is cheaper ($20 one-time port-in, then free) but it is VoIP, only accepts active US mobile numbers, and you must start the port while you are physically in the US. Why don't banks send 2FA codes to Google Voice?
Google Voice is a VoIP number after you port. Many banks, brokerages, and government logins block VoIP destinations for SMS one-time codes. Keep My Number keeps your number registered as a real mobile number, so Chase, Bank of America, PayPal, the IRS, and similar senders keep texting the line they already trust.
Can I port to Google Voice after I have already left the US?
No. Google Voice requires the port request to be made while you are physically in the United States. Keep My Number lets you start the port from anywhere — including after you have already moved.
Can I use Google Voice to keep a UK or EU number?
